One September Morn
Leo Lawton (2002)
Beautiful bright September morning,
terror strikes without any warning.
Aircraft in building like a howitzer shell,
smoke churning up from a burning hell.
Panic stricken, charging down stairs,
groups and singles, bunches and pairs.
Spewing out from shattered portals,
a streaming mass of shaken mortals.
Yet more to come in this fateful hour,
another missile in the opposite tower.
Wild abandon in the conflagration,
sadistic terror in our great nation.
Firemen arrived and policemen too,
brave men all, these men in blue.
Among buzzing bees within their hives,
gallant men entered and offered their lives.
Brothers all, so full of daring,
nerves of steel, hearts of caring.
Heroism, compassion, emotions baring,
love of one’s brethren, they were sharing.
